So I did the 5-7 things a day that “bug” me. You can see a
pattern for the days that certain situations were on my mind.
1.
The amount of lizards in Florida that linger
around homes.
·
Why? The perfect temperature and home for
lizards with not so prevalent predators in rural areas.
2.
The amount of stray cats that are released
without the option to adopt if they aren’t feral
·
Why? Not enough space in the shelters, and some
humane societies believe releasing them in the wild is better than euthanizing
them when the shelters are full.
3.
The amount of inappropriately euthanized animals
at shelters
·
Why? Lack of space, fosters, and government
funding.
4.
Printers at school not taking multiple forms of
payment
·
Why? Schools want to limit the amount of
potential dangers than can present themselves with items that are connected to
the internet.
5.
Multiple coffee shops that close early on Sunday
in a college town
·
Why? Sunday is the slowest business day of the
week and most companies are wanting to make the most profit.
6.
My work office light continuously buzzing
·
Why? Cheap lights for the facility
7.
The tolls growing everywhere
·
Why? Roads are needing to be updated due to the increase
in population and traffic. The tolls are used to pay for such updates.
8.
People Tailgating
·
Why? People are attempting to avoid traffic that
typically happens during peak hours or right before.
9.
More variety of non-dairy ice cream and cheese
cake
·
Why? Dairy products are cheaper to mass produce.
10.
Not having more washing stations in a camp sites
·
Why? The more washing stations, the higher the
water and construction bill will be. Lack of government funding for camp sites
could also be a reason.
11.
Not having bug or lizard preventatives in camp
site bathrooms
·
Why? Lack of government funding to camp sites
leads to budget cuts and thin resources.
12.
Confusing parking signs at Disney
·
Why? Although Disney is very good with directing
traffic with their people, their signs can be confusing when it becomes after
hours and thousands of people are trying to leave, blocking some signs.
13.
Dealing with the obnoxious amount of tourist at
Disney
·
Why? Disney is trying to make the most profit
and allow as many families as the facility can hold.
14.
Lack of information regarding adoption agencies
·
Why? Some adoption agencies are limited on what
they are allowed to post due to government moderation or in attempts to
prevent discrimination lawsuits.
15.
Not being given the proper background for an
adoptable kid
·
Why? It’s a conflict of HIPPA regarding the
child’s parents.
16.
Being pressured into adopting a certain type of
kid based on your financial stability
·
Why? Adoption agencies want the best situations
for all their kids, including those with medical conditions. If they see that
the applicant will not be able to provide those medical expenses for the child,
they will request for another child to be brought forward without such
conditions.
17.
Adoption agencies allowing crappy parent who
only want the financial benefits of adopting to keep the child, when there is
evidence of wrongdoing, or inappropriate situations.
·
Why? More likely than not it will need to become
legal actions against the parents and with hardcore evidence, which can be
difficult if they are meeting the bare minimum for the child.
18.
The law allowing the birth mother or father have
first rights to the kid even when there is and was evidence of abuse.
·
Why? The law is trying to allow the family to
heal and grow together in hopes that the parent will become sober for the
family.
19.
Being denied the ability to have my tubes tied,
even when a medical condition preventing children is present
·
Why? Because my insurance is through a multiple
facilities where doctors can deny the patient if they do not feel comfortable
with the procedure.
20.
The lack of punishment for early abandonment of
animals when they adopt another animal shortly after.
·
Why? Without hard evidence, the animal’s owner
can surrender the animal for any reason whatsoever, including attitude issues.
Reflection:
This
assignment was difficult at first regarding the everyday issues I come across.
I noticed a lot of my “bugs” are centered around trivial things, until I
started thinking of more personal issues I have. I LOVE animals, so anything
regarding rescues is a very touchy subject with me, even though I understand
most situations. On day three you can tell that I was getting very annoyed with
adoption agencies. We’ve been looking to adopt for about a year now and we’ve
yet to been given an opportunity, even when we felt we would make better parents.
It’s similar to the rescue situation about being a touchy subject, but once I
started my “bug” list on that, it was easy to pick things out.
I find it very interesting that a good amount of your bugs involve animals (though a few such as the cats "bug" have to do with human actions). A bug list says a lot about who a person is, and even just reading your first few bugs, I can tell that you have a deep appreciation and love for animals (maybe not lizards, haha). Also very interesting that some of your bugs have to do with law in America and how families and individual's bodies are governed. I think this would be a bug or bother for most people.
ReplyDeleteHey Kristian,
ReplyDeleteThe way you presented all your bugs and your “whys” very well. Also, the post is well organized, and it helps make it easy to read. I like your passion for animals and how it was a great idea to bring in personal ideas into the bugs list. This helps people get to know you more personally. I agree with the “People Tailgating” and “Multiple coffee shops closing early on a Sunday”. First, with tailgating, it can cause accidents that could result in injuries that are never good. Secondly, a lot of people dislike the hours of coffee shops and they could make more money by staying open later particularly from college students. I think that this assignment after you start is not all that hard and gets easier as you do it. Especially with the personalization element you added, which makes these bugs closer to your heart.
